  71. Rot verb(-tt-)

  to decay, or make sth decay, naturally and gradually

  Synonym: DECOMPOSE

  [V]rotting leaves / fruit ◆ The window frame had rotted away completely. ◆

  (figurative) prisoners thrown in jail and left to rot ◆ [VN] Too much sugar will rot your

  teeth.

  72. Decay verb

  to be destroyed gradually by natural processes; to destroy sth in this way

  Synonym: ROT

  [V]decaying leaves / teeth / food [also VN]

  [V]if a building or an area decays, its condition slowly becomes worse: decaying

  inner city areas

  [V] to become less powerful and lose influence over people, society, etc: decaying

  standards of morality

  73. Corrode verb

  to destroy sth slowly, especially by chemical action; to be destroyed in this way: [VN]

  Acid corrodes metal. ◆ (figurative) Corruption corrodes public confidence in a political

  system. ◆ [V] The copper pipework has corroded in places.

  corrosion noun [U]: Look for signs of corrosion. ◆ Clean off any corrosion before

  applying the paint.

  74. Rust verb

  if metal rusts or sth rusts it, it becomes covered with rust: [V] old rusting farming

  implements ◆ Brass doesn't rust. ◆ The floor of the car had rusted through. ◆ [VN]

  Water had got in and rusted the engine.

  rusted adjective: rusted iron

  75. Scorch verb

  to burn and slightly damage a surface by making it too hot; to be slightly burned by

  heat: [VN] I scorched my dress when I was ironing it. ◆ [V] Don't stand so near the

  fire-your coat is scorching! [also VN-ADJ]

  to become or to make sth become dry and brown, especially from the heat of the sun

  or from chemicals: [VN] scorched grass ◆ [V] The leaves will scorch if you water

  them in the sun.

  [V +adv./prep.](BrE, informal) to move very fast: The car scorched off down the

  road. ◆ She scorched to victory in the sprint final.

  76. Bleach verb

  to make sth white or pale by a chemical process or by the effect of sunlight; to become

  white or pale in this way: [VN] His hair was bleached by the sun. ◆ bleached cotton /

  paper ◆ [VN-ADJ] She bleached her hair blonde. ◆ [V] bones of animals bleaching

  in the sun

  77. Tint verb[VN][usually passive]~ sth (with sth) to add a small amount of

  colour to sth: She's had her eyelashes tinted.

  tinted adjective [usually before noun]: tinted glasses / lenses

  78. Dye verb(dyes, dyeing, dyed, dyed) to change the colour of sth, especially by

  using a special liquid or substance: [VN] to dye wool / fabric / clothes ◆ [VN-ADJ]

  79. Blend verb

  ~ A and B (together) to mix two or more substances together: Blend the flour with the

  80. Explode verb

  burst violently

  to burst or make sth burst loudly and violently, causing damage

  Synonym: BLOW UP

  [V]Bombs were exploding all around the city. ◆ The firework exploded in his hand. ◆

  [VN] There was a huge bang as if someone had exploded a rocket outside. ◆ Bomb

  disposal experts exploded the device under controlled conditions.

  get angry / dangerous

  ~ (into / with sth) (of a person or situation) to suddenly become very angry or

  dangerous: [V] Suddenly Charles exploded with rage. ◆ The protest exploded into a

  express emotion

  [V]~ (into / with sth) to suddenly express an emotion: We all exploded into wild

  laughter.

  move suddenly

  [V]~ (into sth) to suddenly and quickly do sth; to move suddenly with a lot of force:

  After ten minutes the game exploded into life.

  make loud noise

  [V]to make a sudden very loud noise: Thunder exploded overhead.

  increase quickly

  [V]to increase suddenly and very quickly in number: the exploding world population

  show sth is not true

  [VN] to show that sth is not true, especially sth that people believe: At last, a

  women's magazine to explode the myth that thin equals beautiful.
