  101. Disburse verb

  [VN] (formal) to pay money to sb from a large amount that has been collected for a purpose:

  The funds were to be disbursed in two instalments.

  disbursement noun [U, C]: the disbursement of funds ◆ aid disbursements

  102. Discount verb [VN]

  ~ sth (as sth) (formal) to think or say that sth is not important or not true: We cannot

  discount the possibility of further strikes. ◆ The news reports were being discounted as

  propaganda.

  to take an amount of money off the usual cost of sth; to sell sth at a discount: discounted

  prices / fares ◆ Most of our stock has been discounted by up to 40%.

  103. Audit verb[VN]

  to officially examine the financial accounts of a company: We have just had our accounts

  audited.

  (AmE) to attend a course at college or university but without taking any exams or receiving

  CREDIT: She audited classes at the University of California.

  104. Depreciate verb

  [V] to become less valuable over a period of time: New cars start to depreciate as soon as

  they are on the road. ◆ Shares continued to depreciate on the stock markets today.

  Antonym: APPRECIATE

  [VN] (business) to reduce the value, as stated in the company's accounts, of a particular

  ASSET over a particular period of time: The bank depreciates PCs over a period of five years.

  [VN](formal) to make sth seem unimportant or of no value: I had no intention of

  depreciating your contribution.

  105. Merge verb

  ~ (with / into) sth ~ A with B ~ A and B (together)

  to combine or make two or more things combine to form a single thing: [V] The banks are set

  to merge next year. ◆ His department will merge with mine. ◆ The villages expanded and

  merged into one large town. ◆ Fact and fiction merge together in his latest thriller. ◆ The two

  groups have merged to form a new party. ◆ [VN] His department will be merged with mine.

  ◆ The company was formed by merging three smaller firms.

  [V] if two things merge, or if one thing merges into another, the differences between them

  gradually disappear so that it is impossible to separate them: The hills merged into the dark

  sky behind them.
