  106. reimburse verb

  [VN] ~ sb (for sth) (formal) to pay back money to sb which they have spent or lost: We will

  reimburse any expenses incurred. ◆ You will be reimbursed for any loss or damage caused by

  our company.

  reimbursement noun [U]: You will receive reimbursement for any additional costs incurred.

  107. Garner verb

  [VN] (formal) to obtain or collect sth such as information, support, etc.

  Synonym: GATHER, ACQUIRE

  All the information that we garnered has been kept on file.

  108. Underestimate verb

  to think or guess that the amount, cost or size of sth is smaller than it really is: [VN] to

  underestimate the cost / difficulty / danger of the expedition ◆ We underestimated the time it

  would take to get there. ◆ The statistics seriously underestimate the number of people

  affected. [also V wh-]

  [VN] to not realize how good, strong, determined, etc. sb really is: Never underestimate

  your opponent. ◆ Their ability should not be underestimated.

  Antonym: OVERESTIMATE

  109. Exchange verb [VN]

  give and receive

  ~ sth (with sb) to give sth to sb and at the same time receive the same type of thing from

  them: to exchange ideas / news / information ◆ Juliet and David exchanged glances (= they

  looked at each other). ◆ I shook hands and exchanged a few words with the manager. ◆ The

  two men exchanged blows (= hit each other). ◆ Everyone in the group exchanged telephone

  numbers. ◆ I heard them exchange words (= argue).

  money / goods

  ~ A for B to give or return sth that you have and get sth different or better instead: You can

  exchange your currency for dollars in the hotel. ◆ If it doesn't fit, take it back and the store

  will exchange it.

  contracts

  ~ contracts (especially BrE) to sign a contract with the person that you are buying sth from,

  especially a house or land: The firm has just exchanged contracts on a nine-acre site.

  110. Assess verb

  ~ sb/sth (as sth) to make a judgement about the nature or quality of sb/sth: [VN] It's

  difficult to assess the effects of these changes. ◆ to assess a patient's needs ◆ Interviews

  allow you to assess the suitability of candidates. ◆ The young men were assessed as either

  safe or unsafe drivers. ◆ I'd assess your chances as low. ◆ [V wh-] The committee assesses

  whether a building is worth preserving. ◆ We are trying to assess how well the system works.

  [VN] ~ sth (at sth) to calculate the amount or value of sth: They have assessed the amount

  of compensation to be paid. ◆ Damage to the building was assessed at £ 40 000.
