  186. Constitute verb (written)

  linking verb [V-N] (not used in the progressive tenses) to be considered to be sth: Does

  such an activity constitute a criminal offence? ◆ The increase in racial tension constitutes a

  threat to our society. ◆ His action was interpreted as constituting a threat to the community.

  Female workers constitute the majority of the labour force. COMPRISE

  187. Eject verb

  [VN] ~ sb (from sth) (formal) to force sb to leave a place: Police ejected a number of violent

  protesters from the hall.

  [VN] ~ sth (from sth) to push sth out suddenly and with a lot of force: Used cartridges are

  ejected from the gun after firing.

  [V]to escape from an aircraft that is going to crash, sometimes using an EJECTOR SEAT:

  The pilot managed to eject moments before the plane crashed.

  188. Radiate verb

  if a person radiates a particular quality or emotion, or if it radiates from them, people can

  see it very clearly: [VN] He radiated self-confidence and optimism. [also V]

  if sth radiates heat, light or energy or heat, etc. radiates from it, the heat is sent out in all

  directions: [V] Heat radiates from the stove. [also VN]

  189. Thaw verb

  [V]~ (out) (of ice and snow) to turn back into water after being frozen: The snow started to

  winter.

  Antonym: FREEZE

  [V]when it thaws or is thawing, the weather becomes warm enough to melt snow and ice:

  It's starting to thaw.
