  196. Chafe verb

  if skin chafes, or if sth chafes it, it becomes sore because the thing is rubbing against it: [V]

  her neck.

  [V]~ (at / under sth) (formal) to feel annoyed and impatient about sth, especially because

  it limits what you can do: He soon chafed at the restrictions of his situation. ◆ Young people

  Phrasal Verbs:contract in (to sth) (BrE) to formally agree that you will take part in sth

  contract out (of sth) (BrE) to formally agree that you will not take part in sth: Many

  employees contracted out of the pension plan.

  contract sth<->out (to sb) to arrange for work to be done by another company rather than

  your own

  199. Fracture verb

  to break or crack; to make sth break or crack: [V] His leg fractured in two places. ◆ [VN]

  She fell and fractured her skull. ◆ a fractured pipeline

  (formal) (of a society, organization, etc.) to split into several parts so that it no longer

  functions or exists; to split a society or organization, etc. in this way: [V] Many people

  predicted that the party would fracture and split. ◆ [VN] The company was fractured into

  several smaller groups.

  fractured adjective [usually before noun]: He suffered a badly fractured arm. ◆ (figurative)

  They spoke a sort of fractured German.

  200. Bleed

  To flow or leak out or emit something slowly:

  exude, leach , ooze, percolate, seep , transpire , transude , weep.
