  541. Crave verb

  (written) to have a very strong desire for sth: [VN] She has always craved excitement.

  [also V, V to inf]

  [VN] (BrE, old use) to ask for sth seriously: I must crave your pardon.

  542. Realize VERB:

  1.To succeed in doing:

  accomplish , achieve, attain, gain, reach. Slang : score.

  2.To achieve (a certain price):

  bring (in), fetch , sell for .

  See GET .

  3.To make real or actual:

  actualize, materialize.

  Idioms: bring to pass, carry into effect.

  4.To make as income or profit:

  bring in, clear , draw , earn, gain, gross, net² , pay , produce, repay , return, yield.

  try to please

  [VN] to try to please sb in order to get sth you want, especially the support of a person, an

  organization, etc.

  Synonym: CULTIVATE

  The company is courting French distributors with a view to selling its products in France.

  [VN] (formal) to try to obtain sth: He has never courted popularity.

  invite sth bad

  [VN] (formal) to do sth that might result in sth unpleasant happening: to court danger /

  death / disaster ◆ As a politician he has often courted controversy.

  have relationship

  [VN] (old-fashioned) if a man courts a woman, he spends time with her and tries to make

  her love him, so that they can get married: He had been courting Jane for six months.

  [V](be courting) (old-fashioned) (of a man and a woman) to have a romantic relationship

  before getting married: At that time they had been courting for several years.

  544. Cherish verb[VN] (written)

  to love sb/sth very much and want to protect them or it: Children need to be cherished. ◆

  to keep an idea, a hope or a pleasant feeling in your mind for a long time: Cherish the

  memory of those days in Paris. ◆ He cherishes the hope that one day they will meet again.

  545. Hail verb

  [usually passive]~ sb/sth (as) sth to describe sb/sth as being very good or special,

  especially in newspapers, etc: [VN] The conference was hailed as a great success. ◆ [VN-N]

  Teenager Matt Brown is being hailed a hero for saving a young child from drowning.

  [VN] to signal to a taxi or a bus, in order to get the driver to stop: to hail a taxi / cab

  [VN] (literary) to call to sb in order to greet them or attract their attention: A voice hailed us

  from the other side of the street. ◆ We soon came within hailing distance of (= fairly close to)

  the others.
