  801. Stalk verb

  to move slowly and quietly towards an animal or a person, in order to kill, catch or harm it or

  them: [VN] The lion was stalking a zebra. ◆ He stalked his victim as she walked home,

  before attacking and robbing her. [also V]

  [VN] to illegally follow and watch sb over a long period of time, in a way that is annoying or

  frightening: She claimed that he had been stalking her over a period of three years.

  [V +adv./prep.]to walk in an angry or proud way: He stalked off without a word. ◆ The

  actress stalked out of a press conference when asked if she had a weight problem.

  (written) to move through a place in an unpleasant or threatening way: [VN] The gunmen

  stalked the building, looking for victims. ◆ (figurative) Fear stalks the streets of the city at

  night. [also V]

  802. Rumble verb

  [V +adv./prep.]to act or move in an awkward or confused way: I could hear him bumbling

  around in the kitchen.

  803. Scale verb[VN]

  climb

  (written) to climb to the top of sth very high and steep: the first woman to scale Mount

  Everest ◆ (figurative) He has scaled the heights of his profession.

  fish

  to remove the small flat hard pieces of skin from a fish

  teeth

  to remove TARTAR from the teeth by SCRAPING: The dentist scaled and polished my teeth.

  change size

  (technical) to change the size of sth: Text can be scaled from 4 points to 108 points without

  any loss of quality.

  804. Budge verb (usually used in negative sentences)

  to move slightly; to make sth/sb move slightly: [V] She pushed at the door but it wouldn't

  budge. ◆ The dog refused to budge. ◆ [VN] I heaved with all my might but still couldn't

  budge it.

  to change your opinion about sth; to make sb change their opinion: [V] He won't budge an

  inch on the issue. ◆ [VN] He was not to be budged on the issue.

  805. Stroll verb[V][usually +adv./prep.]to walk somewhere in a slow relaxed way:

  People were strolling along the beach.
