  831. Impart verb[VN] (formal)

  ~ sth (to sb) to pass information, knowledge, etc. to other people

  Synonym: CONVEY

  to impart facts / news / skills

  ~ sth (to sth) to give a particular quality to sth

  Synonym: LEND

  The spice imparts an Eastern flavour to the dish.

  832. Remit verb(-tt-) [VN] (formal)

  ~ sth (to sb) to send money, etc. to a person or place: to remit fees / funds ◆ Payment will

  be remitted to you in full.

  to cancel or free sb from a debt, duty, punishment, etc: to remit a tax / a fine / fees ◆ to

  remit a prison sentence

  833. Consort verb[V]~ with sb (formal) to spend time with sb that other people do not

  approve of: He is known to have consorted with prostitutes.

  [VN] (formal) to spread information, knowledge, etc. so that it reaches many people: Their

  goalkeeper just managed to tip the ball over the crossbar.

  leave rubbish

  (BrE) to leave rubbish/garbage somewhere outdoors in order to get rid of it: [V] 'No

  tipping.' (= for example, on a notice) [also VN]

  give extra money

  to give sb an extra amount of money to thank them for sth they have done for you as part of

  their job: [V] Americans were always welcome because they tended to tip heavily. ◆ [VN]

  predict success

  [VN][usually passive]~ sth (with sth) to cover the end or edge of sth with a colour, a
