  836. Boast verb

  ~ (about / of sth) to talk with too much pride about sth that you have or can do: [V] I don't

  want to boast, but I can actually speak six languages. ◆ She is always boasting about how

  wonderful her children are. ◆ He openly boasted of his skill as a burglar. ◆ [V that] Sam

  boasted that she could beat anyone at poker. [also V speech]

  [VN] (not used in the progressive tenses) (written) to have sth that is impressive and that

  you can be proud of: The hotel also boasts two swimming pools and a golf course. ◆ Rhodes

  boasts 300 days of sunshine a year.

  837. Exaggerate verb

  to make sth seem longer, better, worse or more important than it really is: [V] The hotel was

  really filthy and I'm not exaggerating. ◆ [VN] He tends to exaggerate the difficulties. ◆ I'm

  sure he exaggerates his Irish accent (= tries to sound more Irish than he really is). ◆ Demand

  for satellite television has been greatly exaggerated.

  838. Brag verb

  (-gg-) ~ to sb (about / of sth) (disapproving) to talk too proudly about sth you own or sth you

  have done

  839. Rally verb(rallies, rallying, rallied, rallied)

  ~ (sb/sth) (around / behind / to sb/sth) to come together or bring people together in order

  to help or support sb/sth: [V] The cabinet rallied behind the Prime Minister. ◆ Many national

  newspapers rallied to his support. ◆ [VN] They have rallied a great deal of support for their

  campaign. ◆ The country hastily rallied its defences.

  [V]to become healthier, stronger, etc. after a period of illness, weakness, etc: He never

  really rallied after the operation. ◆ The champion rallied to win the second set 63.

  [V](finance) (especially of share prices or a country's money) to increase in value after

  falling in value: The company's shares had rallied slightly by the close of trading. ◆ The

  pound rallied against the dollar.

  840. Disband verb

  to stop sb/sth from operating as a group; to separate or no longer operate as a group: [VN]

  They set about disbanding the terrorist groups. ◆ [V] The committee formally disbanded in

  August.
