  966. Dangle verb

  [V][usually +adv./prep.]to hang or swing freely: Gold charms dangled from her bracelet.

  ◆ There was a cigarette dangling from his mouth. ◆ A single light bulb dangled from the

  ceiling. ◆ His legs dangled over the side of the boat. ◆ He sat on the edge with his legs

  dangling over the side.

  [VN] to hold sth so that it hangs or swings freely: She dangled her car keys nervously as she

  spoke.

  967. Project verb

  plan

  [VN][usually passive]to plan an activity, a project etc. for a time in the future: The next

  edition of the book is projected for publication in March. ◆ The projected housing

  development will go ahead next year.

  estimate

  [usually passive]to estimate what the size, cost or amount of sth will be in the future

  based on what is happening now: [VN] A growth rate of 4% is projected for next year. ◆ [VN

  to inf] The unemployment rate has been projected to fall.

  Help Note:This pattern is usually used in the passive. [also VN that]

  light / image

  [VN] ~ sth (on / onto sth) to make light, a photographic image, etc. fall onto a flat surface

  or screen: Images are projected onto the retina of the eye.

  968. Encompass verb[VN](formal)

  to include a large number or range of things: The job encompasses a wide range of

  responsibilities. ◆ The group encompasses all ages.

  to surround or cover sth completely: The fog soon encompassed the whole valley.

  969. Hump verb[VN]

  (BrE) to carry sth heavy: I've been humping furniture around all day.

  970. Tower Phrasal Verbs:tower over / above sb/sth

  to be much higher or taller than the people or things that are near: The cliffs towered above

  them. ◆ He towered over all his classmates.
