  401. Impact verb

  ~ (on / upon) sth to have an effect on sth

  Synonym: AFFECT

  [V]Her father's death impacted greatly on her childhood years. ◆ [VN] (business) The

  company's performance was impacted by the high value of the pound.

  [V, VN]~ (on / upon / with) sth (formal) to hit sth with great force

  402. Link verb[VN][often passive]~ A to / with B

  ~ A and B (together)

  to make a physical connection between one object, machine, place, etc. and another: The

  video cameras are linked to a powerful computer. ◆ The Channel Tunnel links Britain with the

  rest of Europe. ◆ When computers are networked, they are linked together so that

  information can be transferred between them.

  if sth links two things, facts or situations, or they are linked, they are connected in some

  way: Exposure to ultraviolet light is closely linked to skin cancer. ◆ The two factors are

  directly linked. ◆ The personal and social development of the child are inextricably linked (=

  they depend on each other).

  to state that there is a connection or relationship between two things or people: Detectives

  have linked the break-in to a similar crime in the area last year. ◆ Newspapers have linked his

  name with the singer.

  to join two things by putting one through the other: The two girls linked arms as they

  strolled down the street.

  403. Band verb[VN][usually passive]

  with colour / material

  to put a band of a different colour or material around sth: [VN-ADJ] Many insects are

  banded black and yellow. [also VN]

  put into range

  (BrE) to be organized into bands of price, income, etc: Tax is banded according to income

  Phrasal Verbs:band together to form a group in order to achieve sth: Local people banded

  together to fight the drug dealers.

  404. Collaborate verb[V]

  ~ (with sb) (on sth)

  ~ (with sb) (in sth / in doing sth) to work together with sb in order to produce or achieve sth:

  [V] We have collaborated on many projects over the years. ◆ She agreed to collaborate with

  him in writing her biography. ◆ Researchers around the world are collaborating to develop a

  new vaccine.

  ~ (with sb) (disapproving) to help the enemy who has taken control of your country during

  a war: He was accused of collaborating with the enemy.

  405. Hinge verb[VN][usually passive]to attach sth with a hinge
